An Evening with Claire by Gaito Gazdanov
Translated from the Russian by Jodi Daynard
An Evening With Claire was a best-selling novel when it first came out, in Russian, in 1930. This English translation was first published  by Ardis Press in 1988. In June of 2014, Overlook Press reissued the work, keeping the original translation and introduction.

“Jodi Daynard’s rendering of the tender, nostalgic but unsentimental prose seems flawless.”

—The New York Times Book Review

The Place Within: Portraits of the American Landscape by Twenty Contemporary Writers (W.W. Norton)
The Place Within is a time capsule in words by some of our most distinguished writers. These portraits about the places in our country’s diverse landscape range from the hummingbirds of Montana to the neon lights of Time Square, the brush fires of Alaska to the Grand Canyon’s silent grandeur. Finally, NASA astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman lifts us up above America into space, where he looks down upon the country in all its vast and yet poignantly fragile entirety. Jodi Daynard’s contribution was an essay entitled “Suburbia, USA,” for which she received a Notable Mention from Best American Essays. A paperback reissue of this anthology is in the works.
